“Being a dad to two girls is not an easy task, but it sure is rewarding,” says Sean Lavelle, Global Enablement Lead for SAP S/4HANA Cloud at SAP America Inc.
“My wife and I both work for companies that support working from home as an option, so caring for our children, as well as juggling many personal and professional tasks, is a regular practice for us.”
Sean, who works from his home office in Wilmington, Delaware, said he took advantage of the SAP-provided RethinkCare to help his 7-year-old daughter adjust to a new school setting.
“Earlier this year, my daughter entered a new class for the first time. She went from being the oldest in a small room of children, to the youngest child in a much larger classroom. It was a bit of a shock to the system for her and took some time for her to adapt and acclimate,” he said.
“During this time, my wife and I found it challenging to narrow in on exactly what her unique needs were. As a way to help facilitate this process, I elected to speak with a Rethink specialist to obtain expert advice. I am truly grateful for the guidance and assurance that each session left me with.”
Through remote consultations with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and the tools and resources available in Rethink’s online participant portal, Sean has been able to better navigate the journey of raising two young children, while keeping up with the responsibilities of his job and daily life.
“The flexibility to schedule an appointment and select a professional to speak with based on their availability in a user-friendly online portal is refreshing,” he said. “It makes the process as painless as possible, and honestly if it was even a little bit complicated, I may have neglected making the effort to set something up. Since it was so easy, however, that wasn’t something I needed to worry about.”
It’s easy to see Sean is a proud dad, taking a front-row seat to watch his young daughters grow, reach milestones and achieve their own successes. His 7-year-old even managed to land her first paid voice-over gig earlier this year.
“It’s almost like I’m living vicariously through them, with the added perspective that I helped contribute to the way that they behave, socialize and experience new situations,” he said. “The added bonus is watching them navigate life’s challenges on their own, knowing that I helped to give them the confidence they need to pull through just about anything, no matter what the obstacle is, big or small.”
Sean is thankful to work for SAP, a company he said continues to show it cares about employees by offering benefits such as Rethink.
“If I said I was surprised this benefit is offered through my employer, I would be lying. SAP has gone above and beyond, year over year, to ensure their benefit offerings are as comprehensive and market competitive as one could imagine. It’s not just about attracting new talent at SAP, it’s also about retention. Employees realize that SAP cares and, because of that, we can’t imagine looking elsewhere.
“Having Rethink as an added benefit is something that I am truly grateful to SAP for, and I would be doing myself a disservice by not utilizing it.”
Rethink is driving equity, inclusion and advancement for the neurodiverse population.
